REFRIGERATOR ENERGY STAR refrigerators use 20% less energy than standard models.

If every dorm room at UNH switched one compact refrigerator to ENERGY STAR:

  • The annual energy savings would be the same as taking 35 cars off the road!
  • Savings in energy costs would be over $23,000 annually!
LIGHT BULBS ENERGY STAR qualified Compact Fluorescent bulbs use 66% less energy than a standard incandescent bulb and last up to 10 times longer.

If every dorm room replaced one standard light bulb with an ENERGY STAR rated one:

  • The annual energy savings would be the same as taking 23 cars off the road!
  • Savings in energy costs would be $15,000 annually!
LIGHTING ENERGY STAR lighting fixtures use one-third the energy of standard lighting.

EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY External power adapters (battery chargers) convert electricity to power electronic products, like MP3 players, cell phones, camcorders, etc. They continue to use energy when plugged in but not in use. Un-plug your power adapters/chargers when you’re not using them! It will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Look for recently labeled ENERGY STAR models, which use 35% less energy than standard models.
DVD ENERGY STAR DVD players use half the power of conventional models.

If all dorm rooms at UNH switched one DVD player to ENERGY STAR:

  • The annual energy savings would be the same as taking 74 cars off the road!
  • 849,420 pounds less Carbon Dioxide would be emitted each year—enough Carbon Dioxide to fill 101,930,400 party balloons!

COMPUTER An ENERGY STAR qualified computer uses 70% less electricity than computers without enabled power management features. Over its lifetime, ENERGY STAR qualified equipment in a single home office can save enough electricity to light an entire home for more than 4 years.
